Rev for OS 4.x is on its way

We have submitted a fix for the latest rev of the iPhone OS (4.x) to apple and are awaiting approval.

For phones that have been upgraded to 4.x, GolfTraxx will not work for courses that have extras.

Please refer to the courses page to see which courses in your area have/don't have extras, and keep up the feedback. Thanks!!!!!

GolfTraxx, Inc. is a 5 year old golf GPS application software company that makes the GolfTraxx GPS mobile GPS Application. We provide golfers a Golf GPS application for GPS enabled smart phones (iPhones, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, PalmOS & Pocket PC). We have over 100,000 users in over 70 countries worldwide and ~ 3,500 mapped courses.

We are currently hiring ~50 sales reps or teams to promote the GolfTraxx Golf GPS application and a newly developed advertising platform to golf courses across the US. The GolfTraxx advertising platform is designed to drive more golfers to the golf courses in the GolfTraxx community. These are true work-from-home opportunities that allow the right person (or couples) to combine their love of golf with a revenue generating opportunity.

These are commission only jobs that requires the ability to:

Research local golf courses, ensure that the course data is in the GolfTraxx database (we have over 25,000 courses so far)
Map the course using a proprietary online tool if it has not been mapped (this takes about 15 minutes if you know the course layout)
Call the course to promote the GolfTraxx advertising platform
Deliver the value proposition to the decision maker and ask for their business

What are we looking for in a good rep or team?

A LOVE for the game of golf
A deep desire and ability to talk golf as well as our innovative advertising platform to course management
A GPS enabled smartphone (you have to know what you are talking about)
The desire to generate sales and make commissions on your sales
Strong computer literacy
Exceptional communications skills
The ability to work in a dynamic environment as we build out new products and services

A good rep should be able to map over 20 course per day, call 30 - 50 courses per day and ultimately close 2 - 4 sales per day. A sales team (couples are HIGHLY encouraged to apply) should be able to do more. We offer a generous sales commission program that pays for performance on a DAILY basis using PayPal.

GolfTraxx OTA is Here for BlackBerry

So, its been pretty busy and really exciting at GolfTraxx. We've hit over 100,000 downloads and now we are on OTA (Over The Air) distribution for all of our supported BlackBerry devices. For those golfers on PC's this is big news simply because you can purchase and download GolfTraxx on your device without ever having to synch with your PC.

For those (including yours truly), that are Macintosh users... well this is HUGE news. Someday RIM will give us our very own version of Desktop Manager, until then we can only get software via OTA. The rumor mill has a version of Apple DM out there, so we will be full members of the RIM family soon. Not that I will get rid of my iPhone when that happens.

Speaking of BlackBerry. Here is a teaser shot from the BlackBerry STORM version of GolfTraxx in development. Aren't there ANY Storm users here in the SF Bay Area? How about in the Sacramento, or Monterey Bay Area? We could use your input on new developments.

Ageless at the Open Championship

What is up with these guys? At the tender age of 59, Tom Watson was in the hunt at the Open Championship - check that, he was LEADING after the 2nd and 3rd rounds! Almost a repeat of last year's event where Greg Norman at 53 nearly stunned the field, ending at a tie for third, Tom seemed to have gotten nervous as a first timer going for a major win. This year's event was at Turnberry Golf Course in Ayshire Scotland where Tom had won before. This is REALLY great golf and a tough links course. Heck it beat the snot out of Tiger.

The PGA Tour stop was the US Bank Championship played on the Brown Deer Park GC in Milwaukee WI. This is a well seasoned PUBLIC golf course, that you or I can play. The Brown Deer course is a parkland style course with lots of mature trees, long fairways and is beautifully maintained.

Both of these fine courses are of course mapped in GolfTraxx. If you are there watching the event, let us know how the yardages look. Turnberry GC can be found using postal code KA269LG, and the Brown Deer Park GC is at zip code 53209.

He's Back! - The Barkley Hitch - The Masters

The golf world has returned to 'somewhat' normalcy once again. Just a couple short weeks after his return, Tiger Woods once again proved just how good he is. Starting FIVE shots behind, he capt

ures his first win of the season at Arnie's tournament no less at BayHill in Florida. This course has a set of holes call The Bear Trap - Tough golf at its finest. If Tiger wins a few more tournaments and sticks a major or two in his trophy case this year, he is a shoe in for comeback player of the year, IN ADDITION to probably winning the Fed-EX cup, the top money position and the utmost respect from anyone who doesn't think golf is a sport.

Charles Barkley = Hitch, Spasm or Head Case?

I have always found some perverted fascination with the golf swing of Charles Barkley. Some tell their kids to turn away, I on the other hand think that anyone who loves the game as much as Sir Charles, needed to get some help. He's got a killer short game, but getting his ball within about 50 yards is an adventure at best. So, with the encouragement of TW, Hank Haney has been working on Barkley on a Golf Channel show called The Haney Project. Well, I got to say I am loving it. Barkley knows his swing sting, yet he's out there on national TV enduring thousands of swings, physical training, and mental abuse. His golf swing is looking MUCH better and it might not be long where the oddsmakers will have to thing of something other than will Charles land in last place at Tahoe or not.

The Masters

The Masters is less than a week away and we hope to be able to watch as much as possible. Par 3 Tournament, early rounds, we won't be able to get enough around here.

Today's update has 150 added or updated courses (actually just a very few are updates.) NICE! The international course contributions slowed down with only 15 courses, BUT we added a new country to the GolfTraxx Community; Kazakhstan! with two courses. Welcome to GolfTraxx.

RAIN DELAYS

For just the 5th time since the late 1950's the AT&T Pro-Am had the fourth round washed out. (Prior to 1957 this was a three round tournament.) With winds pushing 40mph, heavy rain and falling trees, not only was it impossible to golf, it was dangerous for the fans. The weather in northern California has been pretty tough this past couple months, but the upside is that the golf courses are looking spectacularly green! We've had a two-year drought, so even a regular rainy season is welcomed.

GOLF'S ECONOMIC STIMULUS PACKAGE

Like it or not, the professional golfers on the PGA and LPA tours have got be thanking their lucky stars for the return of Tiger Woods and for Michelle Wie's rookie season. Yes, there will be the large entourages, yes there will be the media circuses and yes great rounds will be 'overlooked' by single errant shots by these two super stars. BUT, there will be crowds, paying crowds that sponsors want to court, crowds that the networks want to show on TV.

GOOGLE EARTH VERSION 5.0

If you have not seen it yet, Google Earth recently released version 5.0. This is a great new version and one feature is particularly good for us at GolfTraxx. In the tool box there is a small clock icon that when pushed allows the user to review past imagery of the same location using a slide bar. So, if the latest image is shaded, has poor contrast, etc., you can now look back and see past imagery and pick the best one to use on a map. Very cool indeed!

NEW COURSES

This is a massive update (185 to be precise) and we want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who sent in a course or courses. Internationally, we added Antigua, Chile and The Czech Republic as new countries to the GolfTraxx community as part of 48 new courses. The UK alone added 29 (60%) of the international courses and represented even more new courses than any US state. Several of the UK courses are either Open Championship or Women's Open Championship or Open Championship qualifying sites. The GolfTraxx community added or updated 137 US courses for this update. Virginia shot to the top of the list with 18 courses, followed by strong showings by Texas with 17 courses, California with 15 courses and a new entry to the top five, ILLINOIS (also with 15.) Several courses have been re-mapped with the enhanced/added imagery from Google Earth version 5 and we highly suggest that everyone download and try the new features. They are cool!

Why GPS?, 16th at Scottsdale, Course Updates

WHY GPS

This is a great picture and it really tells the story. With one stroke your Sunday round can cost you an additional $200. Choosing the correct club is really important and unless you are always in the fairway with marked sprinkler heads, your ability to know your distance is limited.

WHAT IS THE STATUS OF GOLF?

This week, the PGA tour stop is TPC Scottsdale' Stadium Course (Zip code 85255) and the 'Loudest Hole In Golf' None other than the 16th, where this year there will be over 30,000 fans in the only fully enclosed hole anywhere in the world. The Saturday round will be attended by over 150,000 spectators, and over the course of the entire tournament, somewhere between 300,000 and 400,000 people will walk the course. This is the anti-tournament, and the 16th is certainly the anti-establishment hole. Do good and the crowd roars, flub a shot and you will hear groans, boos and heckling every year until you make a great shot.

A question for the GolfTraxx community. Should the rest of the pro golf tours add a few holes like the 16th at TPC Scottsdale? Would this increase fan involvement, increase interest by the younger crowd, bring more new golfers to the sport? Given the pulling of sponsorships by banks, real estate and automobile companies, what changes does this game need in at minimum keep the status quo?

New Website Features, GolfTraxx can Map Your course, Tour Updates

New Website Features:

2009 is shaping up to be a great year for the GolfTraxx community. We have started major changes to the website, are finalizing some great features to the next releases of the GolfTraxx application and (if that wasn't enough) are building some really cool tools to allow the GolfTraxx community to participate in our growth.

This week we integrated Google Maps into the GolfTraxx website. Now, in addition to getting course information and the scorecard, you can now get each tee information (yardages, ratings, slope), directions to the course, and even view mapped courses hole-by-hole. By clicking on the View Hole button on each hole of the online scorecard, you will see the green for the hole, plus the other placemarks that were submitted for the hole (Front, Middle, and Back of Each green, plus the Tee Target). Looking at each hole this for each of the courses you have submitted will give you feedback on how you did mapping the course. It may provide an opportunity for you to improve the mapping that was completed on the course.

We've now added the ability to map courses for the community. Yes, now you can have one of our experts map your favorite course, a course that you will be playing while on a business trip, or while on vacation. Simply order the course via the NO TIME TO MAP link here, and we will keep it up in the Quick Notes section on the right side of the blog.

Quick Online Course Review

Speaking of hole-by-hole course views. You can now review your local course to make sure that the green centers are pretty much correct on the GolfTraxx website. By clicking on the View Hole button on each hole of the scorecard, you will see the green, plus the placemarks that were submitted for the hole (Front, Middle, and Back of Each green, plus the Tee Target). If the placemarks are not positioned correctly on the green centered in the picture, let us know! Send a note including the Course and the hole so we can check it out.

Pro Tour News

The PGA tour is still in Hawaii ( I bet most of the GolfTraxx community wishes they were there too) this week. While many on the mainland are fighting temperatures that are 20, 30 and even 40 degrees below zero, the Men's tour is playing in howling winds and rain on the Waialae Golf Course (zip code 96816). And, for those on the East coast, now might be a good time catch a round at the Lake Nona Golf & Country Club (zip code 32827) where high profile resident Annika Sorenstam recently got married. Tiger Woods, another resident of Lake Nona gave the couple a "really big bottle of wine" and no one is saying if he was in attendance. (Our bets are a “Yes” on that.) The LPGA and Champions tour are still off for their Winter breaks.

The new year has started strong with an additional 90+ courses! Internationally, we welcome three new countries with the addition of courses in St. Kitts, Aruba and the Philippines. The UK took the top spot this update with seven new courses, edging Australia by one and a VERY strong performance by Mexico.

Happy New Year

I have heard the term "Turing over a new page" referring to next month of a calendar. This got me to thinking that at the end of the year we don't really turn a new page at all. Rather, we get a brand new, blank set of 365 pages at our disposal. What we do with all those days is what's important. Will you play more golf? Practice more? Get that set of new clubs you have been eying all season? The choices are endless. While I generally don't do a "New Year's Resolution" I have decided that I will walk the course more times than not, I will play more times in 2009 than I did in 2008 and most importantly, I will focus on each and every shot. What is your golf goal in 2009? Let the community know by posting it as a comment below.

We at GolfTraxx are REALLY looking forward to a great 2009 and have a ton of ideas that we want to bring to our community. We are working on a major site update, new/updated versions of GolfTraxx, and as always getting as many golf courses GPS mapped as possible. So, bring it on, send us your favorite courses. Our resolution for 2009 is to provide you the best user experience we can.

New year, new Season.

Wow, it is just two weeks into Winter and the men's PGA Tour will start up this week. Granted, a couple weeks in Hawaii is a tough life, but who is complaining? The Kapalua Resort (zip code 96761) will host the Mercedes Benz Championship starting on the 8th. This annual season opener brings together only tour event winners and we get to see how the Pros shoot after a few weeks to a few months away from top level competition. Next week, the Sony Open will be played at the Waialae Country Club (96816), just outside Honolulu. The Champions, the LPGA and the Nationwide Tours will start in a few more weeks.

In the past couple weeks we completed 69 new and updated courses. We welcome Fiji as our newest country to the GolfTraxx community and also give a welcome to Puerto Rico as a new member of our international community. Australia once again lead the international with 15 new courses. It is always a G'Day down under for golf.

With this being the last update of 2008, all of us at GolfTraxx would like to wish our users a sincere Happy Holidays. It has been a great 2008 and we are looking forward to the start of the new year, as well as the new golf season. Last week, the LPGA wished farewell (I say it is just 'we will see you later') to Annika Sorenstram. Her poise, professionalism and great ball striking will certainly be missed around the world of golf. This week, the men's tour is playing at the Chevron Wold Challenge at the Sherwood CC in Westlake Village (zip code 91361). Its is good that this wasn't played in Las Vegas, where it snowed almost four inches!

We noticed an interesting way that the iTunes shop gives ratings to applications in the Aps store. When users delete an application to upgrade it, a quick survey asks for users to rate the application being deleted. Well, GolfTraxx was recently updated and TENS OF THOUSANDS of you updated your application, but our rating went way down. In fact, out of 30,000+ downloads, we have received less than 50 reviews. Our best theory for the drop in our rating is that many of you didn't enter any rating, so our overall score dropped.

So, if you are enjoying GolfTraxx on an iPhone, and didn't yet take the opportunity to rate GolfTraxx, please stop on by to the iTunes shop and give us a rating or write a review.

During the past couple of weeks, we added 68 new courses, with Texas once again leading the contributors in the US with 15 new courses. Both Arizona and Hawaii contributed seven each. Golfers certainly are flocking to the warmth of the lower latitudes. On the international front, we received courses from 9 countries which included new courses in The Bahamas, Jamaica and Fiji. Summary

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving! Since our last update, GolfTraxx has added over 120 courses, including courses in 10 countries (United States, Canada, England, Australia, Russia, South Africa, Venezuela, France, Italy, Holland) as well as new courses in 21 states. The golfing must be good in Texas in recent weeks as that state alone contributed 30 new courses to our list.

Every course being added to our database now has at least a few holes of “extras” so users will receive the full GolfTraxx experience.

Planning a trip to somewhere warm and/or tropical for Christmas? GolfTraxx now has over 50 courses in Hawaii mapped, over 100 in southern Florida, over 100 in Australia, over 200 in Texas, 30 in Arizona, and has courses in Barbados, the Bahamas, etc. So don’t forget to take GolfTraxx with you. You still have time to send in kml’s to get them processed in

time to use them on your trip.

A user sent us this picture of GolfTraxx on the 18th hole of their home course. Either this is the longest green on the planet, or there is a piece of errata on this hole. (If you picked option 2, you were correct.) If you notice something similar, PLEASE bring it to our attention. A picture is worth a thousand words, so if you have an iPhone you can use a screen capture function to save what you see. Simply hit the menu button (the one on the bottom of the face of the phone) AND the Power button (the one on the top of the phone) at the same time. Holding them for just about a second records the picture to your photos folder. Simply send us an email and let us know what course, it is from and the issue you noticed and we will research the problem.

Speaking of PICTURES... If you have a spectacular picture of your favorite track (like the 15h at the Caracas Country Club shown at the right), send it to us. We'll see how many we can add to the site. If you have a picture of you USING GolfTraxx on the course, the probability of us adding it increases.

Six Rounds That Can Change Your Life

Think about this... You have six rounds to change your life. Six rounds, top 25 get a coveted PGA tour card. Top 25 get automatic entries to tournaments, courtesy cars (probably not a GM, but a courtesy car no less), top 25 play for MILLIONS each week. The rest? Either exempt or conditional status on the Nationwide Tour or GASP... a job as a club pro. Now THAT is pressure! (But pressure I would certainly love to try.)

This week is Q-School. Some say THE TOUGHEST tournament in golf. Win, or place in the top 25 (and ties) and your tour card is punched, your meal card is punched for the year. Don't make it, and you have a year of grinding ahead of you.

For the ladies, things are not much better. 90 holes (five rounds) but only the top 20 get the best tour card (even this is not fully exempt.) From both tours the names on the boards read a who's who of tournament winners, NCAA All-Americans, and International tour winners.

11/25/08 v1.2 Fixes Southern Hemisphere Courses (iPhone)

GolfTraxx iPhone edition (v1.2) was approved this afternoon and fixes availability of courses in the Southern Hemisphere on the iPhone. Now that spring is in the air for our community members in many countries south of the Equator, we are ecstatic that this fix is in place. Drop us a note to let us know that it is working.

GolfTraxx on the BlackBerry STORM (Sunday 11/23/08 update)

The BlackBerry STORM by RIM (Research In Motion) hit the street with a bang this past Friday, and at least one member of the GolfTraxx community had GolfTraxx as one (if not THE) first 3rd-party application up and running. So, without any further commentary, here is the quote from the user:

I just finished our round at Bonneville - the programis AWESOME!! The GPS worked great. The yardage was within 2-5 yards of my brothers sky caddy. I would put it back in my BlackBerry case with magnet between shots and it would come back from sleep mode easily. No question that it works on the Storm and VZW without VZNav running.

I had fun walking you through the process of removing VZNav. = ) You have a really cool phone and I hope you have a lot of good rounds using GolfTraxx on your Storm. For anyone else that is getting a Storm, the GolfTraxx 88xx version loads up and you do not need to purchase VZNav to use GolfTraxx.

End of the Season

This past week marks the end of the regular season in the golf world. The Walt Disney Magnolia course saw Davis Love III win his 20th tour victory, earning him a LIFETIME PGA Tourcard. Among active players on the tour only three guys have more than 20 wins. Tiger Woods with 65, Phil Mickelson with 34, and Vijay Singh also with 34. Nice company to be in, and this almost assures Davis a spot in the the Hall of Fame. Now not to give too much away about just how much golf I watch... but Tommy "two gloves" Gainey of The Golf Channel's reality show The Big Break was the runner up. Tommy is a country kid from South Carolina who pretty much taught himself how to hit a golf ball after his baseball career ended. Anyways, he's got game and JUMPED from the mid 200s on the money list to 151st. That also got him into the final round of Q-School, and a few more guaranteed starts next year on tour.

Hall of Fame

Going on with the Hall of Fame, an equally loved and hated course designer was inducted this year. None other than Pete Dye who gave the PGA tour the dreaded 17th at TPC Sawgrass. Turns out his wife (an accomplished designer and better player than Pete), came up with the idea of the 'island green'. Where Pete likes to move mounds of earth to give us a golf course, we at GolfTraxx have spent the last week moving mounds of data around for your golf courses. In fact, nearly every course has in some way been moved, adjusted or updated at least twice this past week. We have more to work on, but the results so far have been very, very solid. When you move that much data, sometimes things can go awry. So if you come across a course that seems to have stopped working, please let us know. We’ll get it fixed right away. We are well aware of issues on our iPhone version impacting the Southern Hemisphere and are testing our latest version for the iPhone that addresses it.

DJ Gregory Walks 1,000 - No Complaints allowed Added (11/23/08)

So I just read the story of DJ Gregory and his journey walking every hole of every round plus playoffs of the 2008 PGA tour. This is an AMAZING story as DJ was born ten weeks early and with severe cerebral palsy. He walked almost 1,000 miles! His story is an inspiration to us all. I think I will forgo the cart for a while.

Today's update will be a bit short on newsworthy items as we want to leave as much room for the OVER ONE HUNDRED new courses & updates! Yep, since our last update we have brought on or updated over 100 courses in LESS THAN two weeks. This has included 11 countries (many of them are new to GolfTraxx) and 28 US States. We GREATLY appreciate your support and hope you are enjoying GolfTraxx as much as we enjoy providing the SW and service to the Golf community.

We need your feedback! For those using GolfTraxx iPhone edition (and there are a LOT of you since we passed 10,000 downloads this week). Get the word out! The BETTER the user reviews posted to the iTunes store, the more users will download the software and provide the community with new courses. Please post your reviews. This will generate the most momentum for the community and will allow us to be the global golf GPS provided for smart phones. For users of GolfTraxx Blackberry, Windows Mobile, Palm, Etc., we want your feedback as well. Let the communities at CrackBerry, BlackBerryForums, TreoCentral, etc., know just how much fun your Golf game is with GolfTraxx.

We continue to map as many of the tour (PGA, LPGA, European, Canadian, Champions, Nationwide & Duramed) courses, so that you can enjoy the same course conditions the pros play. (Valderrama & Kai sai for example.) Many of the world's best courses do allow visitors to play, so if you are planning a golf vacation, be sure to map the courses you will be playing and send them in to us. 6K and Rising!

The response to the GolfTraxx iPhone edition has been great with over 6,000 downloads so far in just 11 days! There are lots of new users and we welcome all of you to the GolfTraxx community. That also means that we are getting lots of new courses added daily for your golfing pleasure. The iPhone Quickstart Guide provides the easy steps to finding and loading courses to your device, adding players and using GolfTraxx on the course. I highly encourage everyone to use the battery saving settings, they really help on those six hour weekend rounds. LPGA Stays for Two Events

The LPGA spent two weeks in the SF Bay Area with both the Samsung World Championships and the Longs Drugs Challenge being held back to back in the region. The Half Moon Bay Golf Links hosted the first event which was won by Paula Creamer, playing in front of a lot of home town fans. The Longs Drugs Challenge at the Blackhawk Country Club was attended by some of us here at GolfTraxx and we had a blast. We met some great people from the Golf Channel, The LPGA, The Half Moon Bay Golf Links, The NCGA, and The National Golf League.

GolfTraxx on Tour

As the major tours hit new venues, GolfTraxx will be there! If you are walking the course at a tournament , be sure to download the course to your GolfTraxx enabled device and see just how far the players hit the ball. We're mapping the courses they play because most of them you can play also. This week, the courses at Kapalua, TPC Summerlin (Las Vegas) are mapped as is the TPC at The Woodlands G &CC (Champions Tour stop). GolfTraxx users have had GPS coordinates available at Kapalua and The Woodlands for over a year. The Nationwide Tour stop this week is 'under wraps' as the imagery for the stop was while the greens were literally covered or under construction.

We got word today (yes a Saturday) that GolfTraxx iPhone Edition was approved and is ready for FREE downloading via the iTunes store. So, we are no longer under the RADAR. To all the users that have added courses - we say THANK YOU! To those that are new to GolfTraxx, Welcome to the community!

Before we get to the new courses, a 'very' quick primer.

GolfTraxx is all about the community. If your favorite track is not yet mapped - we can provide the tools to do it quickly and easily using the GolfTraxx Guide to Mapping Courses. Want a REALLY detailed map (the kind that will win a few skins off your regular foursome.) Map your course using the GolfTraxx guide to Mapping Extras. Generally, we can have your favorite course ready to use in two business days and for most courses it will take you just about 30 minutes to map your first course. By the time you have done a few, it will take about 20 minutes to do a great job on the basics, and maybe another 20 to do extras. A really good investment of your time if you get an unexpeced rain-out. Need to make changes to a course - no problem. Adding extras to an already mapped course can take a business day or less.

Update - US Wins, Faldo gets dragged through the mud

I really feel for Nick Faldo and think that captaining any Ryder Cup team is looking like a thankless job. Nick might want to give a call to Billy Martin as Billy might have some advice on how to deal with unreasonable management and idiotic press.

Here's how I see it. Nick didn't miss a single put, didn't shank any shots left, right or in the drink. He didn't get get crushed by a rookie or (lets give credit where credit is due) score more points than the guys who 'made it on merit' as a captain's selection.

To the US team - Good showing! To the European team, congratulations on keeping a stiff upper lip. To the southern boys - Thanks for keeping us entertained! (see video above.)

Ryder Cup - US in the lead near the half way mark & it is getting loud in KY.

I read a post that asked an interesting question. Why do Americans shout "in-the-hole" at the first shot of a 500yard par five? Well, other than the obvious answer [beer], todays Ryder Cup set-up gives us a glimpse into the future. They are playing three different 500y+ par 4s at Valhalla, and JB Holmes just crushed a 380y drive followed up with a 230y SIX iron to within six feet on a 600y par 5. A 500y drive might be possible some day in the future?

The galleries are huge and loud and the US team is giving them lot to cheer about. Lets hope the event stays exciting and doesn't get ugly. A blow-out will lose TV audiences pretty quick without Tiger in the fairways.

iPhone UPDATE:

This [past] week we submitted GolfTraxx iPhone edition to iTunes! Wow, a TON of work was accomplished in a short time and we think we have a winner! If you haven't yet seen that UI, scroll down a little bit. We'll let you know when we get a word back from Cupertino (via Ireland - where the iTunes Aps support center is located.)

CAN I MAP A DRIVING RANGE?

This question comes up and the answer is YES, you can map a driving range! Mapping your favorite range could be the least expensive and BIGGEST help you can do for your game. Not a new $500 driver, not a $250 hybrid, and not a new $150 wedge. For less than an hour of your time you can know the exact distance to your range targets even if you are off to the sides of the range OR when the range moves the stations up and back. So, when you are using your current equipment and need to know exactly how far the blue flag is - you will!

A very quick how-to:

Make a new folder and name it yourgolfcourse range
Next map the closest green/target as #1 and locate the C, and hopefully a F and B
Move to the next closest location and indicate the C, F, B, etc.
If you range also has bunkers, trees or other targets, build an Extras file for the range using the same Reach & Carry name structure as your regular golf course.
Save it as a KML and send it in to us at GolfTraxx [GolfTraxx@att.blackberry.net].

See, it is as easy as a long walk holding 14 clubs.

After the long holiday weekend this little gem showed up in my email:

Greg,
Just wanted to let you know that I used the GolfTraxx software on my blackberry over the weekend for the first time at a course that actually has GPS in the carts and it worked flawlessly! When comparing the distances with GPS on the carts it was exactly the same distances to the green centers. The GPS in the carts were very basic (center of green only) but I found a number of times it was giving me the distance to the wrong hole... But I was able to rely on the GolfTraxx on my BB to give me the correct hole not to mention the reach and carry distances to all the other obstacles on the course.... Great Job!

The iPhone will be the 5th OS supported by GolfTraxx! If you OR someone you know has an iPhone 3G, let them know that they can join the GolfTraxx iPhone edition beta program.

In the Golf world, seems that even though it is just August, the talk is moving to the playoffs and the Ryder Cup. The other interesting talk is the question – "Should golf be reinstated as an Olympic sport?" I personally LOVE the spirit of the Olympic Movement and say YES, bring back Golf. BUT, not like basketball or tennis. Seems the IOC likes big (pro) names in the Olympics because that sells tickets, sells broadcasting rights, etc. I am a bit of a purist and say lets bring back the ideals of the Amateur, and give the spotlight to the national junior champions as their entry to the Olympics. Feel free to post your thoughts in the comments area below.

The year's final major started today and once this weekend is over the golf world will be looking at the Ryder Cup and the FedEx points race. We to at GolfTraxx are in high gear and the latest additions to the course database show the dedication of both the GolfTraxx staff AND our great users. The Open Championship & New Courses

ONE FOR THE AGES AND AGELESS

Padraig Harrington's defense of his Open Championship was one for the ages. Played in near unplayable conditions (BTW, I personally think that lightning and darkness are the only reasons a course is unplayable), Padraig played the back nine in an amazing 32 to keep the Claret Jug on his breakfast table another year. In the championship's most compelling story, Greg Norman showed us all that provided that you stay fit, you can play this game competitively for a very long time. Like another great South African golfer (the REAL Dark Knight) – you know, Gary Player) age is a truly a mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter. Greg is 53 and ended in the top 5 of the most difficult test in golf this year so far. Gary Player who is 73, can still shoot in the 70s and WALKS courses.
